Tips to pick the right moving service

Picking the right storage and moving services can be difficult. While most complaints are related to damage or loss of valuables, getting charged for non-working hours by the company is also a problem that many customers experience. Later arrival of goods is another issue that you might face if you don’t pick the right storage and moving service. So here is a list of things that you need to do to pick the right company for your storage and moving needs:

Get a reliable mover
When you look for storage and moving services on the internet, you will get a long list of results. However, what you need to choose is a provider who has an impeccable track record and a spotless reputation. Read as many reviews as possible on the web. But what you need to be doubly sure about a provider is a recommendation. Asking family members, friends, colleagues, or neighbors should give you a fair idea about the company.

Follow the rule of threes
Getting an estimate from a company and settling for it is one of the biggest mistakes that you can make while moving your house. Rather, you should look for three different companies and get estimates from each one of them. Also, make sure that the estimate is given in person, after the company has inspected all your stuff. If it’s a local move, then it should you cost anywhere from $500 to $2,500 and upwards, depending on the amount of things you need moved. The cost of interstate moves depends on many factors, such as the distance and volume of belongings. However, on an average, it can cost around $5,000.

Look out for red flags
While you are receiving an estimate from the company, make sure you keep an eye on all the possible red flags. For instance, if your provider is reputable and authentic, then they may not ask for any cash deposit for moving your stuff. In case the provider seems to be eager to get money before getting the job done, then the company might not be legit and you might want to stay away from them. Also, while they are giving you an estimate, try to gauge the professionalism of the service provider. For example, if they show up late for the meeting, or if they are not sure about their capabilities, or if they are unable to answer your queries, then you must stay away from them. Also, if the storage and moving company is showing up at your residence in a rented van, it is a red flag. An authentic service provider will always have their own equipment.

Choose a licensed provider
A USDOT number is given to movers who are licensed by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). You can verify the license of the mover online if you have to move interstate. You should also request the mover to provide their USDOT number. In case you are moving locally in the state, you can check the authentication of your mover with the consumer affairs agency. Doing this will help you ensure that your mover is reliable and all your valuables are safe with them.

Check their address
Before finalizing the mover, ask for their business card or check their address online. You can look for their address on their website or a city directory. The address should be listed and registered under the company’s name. In case the address is listed under a residential name, then you must think twice before hiring the company for the job.
